Benalla Hockey Club
Benalla’s new format Summer Hockey 5’s started last Thursday, October 6, with a reprieve in the weather seeing some mum’s play their first hockey game ever, and a few extra siblings join in to make up the teams.

Two fun games saw everyone have a great hit around, with the red team taking an early lead, only to draw in both games, with final scores 2:2 then 1:1.
Teams of five replace the usual 11, and playing on a quarter field ensures that everyone is involved and get lots of goes on the ball — even those mum’s hiding out on the wing.
With an emphasis on learning the basic skills in a fun and less competitive format, the normal hockey rules apply, but a free hit or a 1-on-1 ‘challenge’ replaces the traditional penalty corner. This keeps the ball in play, making the game more inclusive.
New players aged from 10 to 80-year-olds are very welcome, with equipment available and all skill levels catered for.
We hope the weather holds out so we have enough for four teams next week and can run a round-robin. The first four weeks are free, so please come down to have some fun.
Hockey 5’s runs from 6pm to 7pm each Thursday in October, at Churchill Reserve off Waller St.
For more information and any cancellations due to weather, please see Benalla Hockey Club’s Facebook page.

Barefoot Bowls with Chisholm Probus Group Melbourne
This event was to take place in October 2021 but due to COVID-19 restrictions, which were in force at the organised time, it was postponed to 2022.
Thankfully we were able to host this group of lovely people on Wednesday, October 5. However, due to the weather, we had to hastily change to indoor bowls and lunch in the bistro.
We hosted 30 members of this Probus Group and nearly all of them took part in the indoor bowls and they all had a good time.
All of the volunteers thoroughly enjoyed the experience and meeting the Chisholm Probus Group. We would be happy to welcome them back any time they wish to come back.
Social bowls
No social bowls due to pennant practice at YMGCR.
Saturday, October 8
Practice match at YMGCR
Sixty bowlers travelled by coach to YMGCR’s greens for a sausage sizzle lunch and then 21 ends of pennant practice before the season starts on October 15.
It was cool and windy on the greens but very enjoyable with good company. The BBC OBS committee wishes all bowlers taking part in pennant this season good bowling.
