The Young Sportsperson Trust has put $1000 towards the cost of Young competing in the World Scooter Championships in Sydney in October.
Young’s training of the next generation of scooter riders at the Benalla Skate Park was a major factor in why the trust awarded him the grant.
One rider who trains under Young is Andrew Noyes, and his mother, Kylie, says Young’s mentorship has been outstanding.
“He (Andrew Noyes) has absolutely loved it. He’s thrived,” Kylie said.
“We only started just over 12 months ago when we first met Mitch at just a local North East Skate comp.
“He’s learnt a lot more tricks, a lot more confidence.
“With the help of Mitch now, he’s actually competing in the North East Skate comp, which is all the local people around here, which is actually helping him start to place in the different events.”
While Young goes and competes at one of the highest standards in his sport, it surely won’t be long when his students reach the same stage.
