Following a Coalition funding announcement of $10 million last week, the Labor government has followed suit and thrown its support behind a recreation centre rebuild, promising $15 million toward a new stadium should it be elected this month.

Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes and Labor candidate for Euroa Angela Tough visited the centre last week to announce the funding.
“This redevelopment is a great example of how a re-elected Andrews Labor Government will make sport more accessible, welcoming and inclusive for all, particularly the growing number of girls and women playing sport,” Ms Symes said.
“I practically grew up at this stadium, playing, coaching and refereeing basketball, playing indoor netball and numerous school activities.
“I’m incredibly proud to be able to secure this huge Labor commitment that will inject new life into this well-used and much-loved community facility.”
Labor candidate for Euroa Angela Tough said the commitment recognised how important the centre was to local sporting families.
“As a parent and a teacher, I know how important modern dedicated sports facilities are for local families,” Ms Tough said.
“Only Labor will ensure the Benalla Indoor Recreation Centre upgrade gets delivered and delivered properly by providing $15 million to this game-changing project.”
Benalla Rural City Council welcomed the funding, having tabled a master plan for the centre’s redevelopment in 2019.
Council is now in the process of appointing an architect to the project who will undertake detailed design work and prepare tender documentation.
