Our visitors travelled from Bairnsdale in the south, Albury in the north-east, and Mooroopna in the west. While the weather was splendid, the unseasonal warmth added an extra layer of challenge as the day progressed.
Despite the heat, players showcased remarkable determination and sportsmanship, battling fiercely for every hoop. The intensity of the games led to some being stopped on ‘time’, with many other matches decided on the 13th hoop.
It was a special day for three new Benalla members, who not only competed in their first competition but also performed admirably, learning and enjoying the games alongside experienced players.
The leaderboard remained tightly contested until the final round. Scorers diligently double-checked all results before announcing the winners. It was a draw!
Peter Hodder from Bairnsdale and Helen Humphreys from Mooroopna emerged as equal winners, each securing four games, 30 hoops, and eight net hoops.
The day was defined by spirited competition and mutual respect, transcending the game itself. Congratulations to all participants.
Many thanks to our wonderful Benalla club members who prepared the courts, kept scores and manned the kitchens, ensuring the day was a resounding success. Your dedication provided players with an enjoyable croquet experience.
