Equine Philosopher took out the Mulwala Water Ski Club Cup 70 Handicap over 2046m at the Benalla Racing Club on Sunday afternoon.
The Jarrod Robinson-trained six-year-old gelding, ridden by Echuca jockey Rose Hammond, finished 0.3 lengths ahead of Privileged Son in the day’s main race.
The cup win was Hammond’s 24th career win and fourth with the six-year-old son of Unencumbered.
Starting at odds of $12, Equine Philosopher led from start to finish.
It was the second winner Hammond had ridden for the Bendigo trainer in November after she guided Mangwanani to victory at the Wycheproof Cup meeting on November 4.
Nearly a year after debuting as a jockey, the 21-year-old has built a solid foundation.
In 283 starts, Hammond has had 23 winners and 44 placings, crafting a reputation as a reliable hoop in the country racing scene.
Regarding local Benalla trainers, Malua Racing Team Corstens’ best result came in the Mortgage Finance Solutions Maiden Plate.
Indira, ridden by Paul Gatt, placed second in the 1406m race.
