The AFS Shepparton Cup has wrapped up for another year, but the memories will live on well into the future.

Goulburn Valley’s biggest ever football tournament brought a catalogue of storied moments, from net-bending goals, fancy-footed flair and all-encompassing celebration.

Tears were shed, both in agony and ecstasy.

But for the 3867 players who contested 756 games across three days of action, the spirit of the game ruled over all.

Teams from far and wide — New Zealand and out of state — took on some of our homegrown talent, with Shepparton, Shepparton United, Shepparton South, Shepparton Junior Soccer Association, GV Suns and Cobram throwing hats in the ring.

The Suns added a treble of trophies to their cabinet, pointing to a promising crop of talent shooting up through the ranks at McEwen Reserve.

GV Suns Blue took out the cup with a 2-0 victory over Hoppers Crossing in the under-11 Liga decider, while GV Suns Orange also scored a 2-0 win, beating Ballarat City in the under-9 Liga grand final.

Last but not least, GV Suns Orange ousted Greenvale United 1-0 to win the under-8 Liga trophy, with News photographer Rechelle Zammit snapping shots of the side’s earlier group stage triumph over Williams Landing.
