Our U12 Red team travelled over to Mansfield to take on Delatite on a crisp Friday night.
Getting sent in to bat by the home team the Bushies were determined to post a winnable score.
Unfortunately, Jimmy Humphrey’s time at the crease wasn’t as long as he’d hoped but his opening partner, Ollie Ross, made sure that his time with the bat was well spent, making 29 not out.
Archer Pickering also pitched in with 14 runs to help get the Red team to a formidable total of 107.
The bowling of the Red team was relentless, not allowing Delatite to score freely and restricting them to only 54 runs.
Jack McKenzie had a night out with two catches and a run-out, with Bill Bourke contributing with 2-6 off the one over.
Final score:
U12 Red – 6-107
Delatite – 6-54
U12 Blue
Hosting the Wangaratta Magpies Black team at Arundel St on Friday night, the Blue team were asked to have a bowl and they made short work of the Magpies batters, not allowing any of their players to score over 13.
Caleb Hein and Toby Fitzgerald both ended up with two wickets each for the night.
When it was the Blue team’s turn to bat their openers struggled to make an impact; then enter Ted Clancy. He put on a very commendable score of 49 not out with Toby Smith also contributing 26 of his own runs.
Unfortunately time ran out for young Ted to bring up a half-century, but there’s definitely always next week.
Final score:
U12 Blue – 4-149
Wangaratta Magpies Black – 7-55
U12 Green
The Bushies Green team also played Friday night up at Bindell Reserve against the White Wangaratta Magpies team.
The Green team were sent in to bat and after losing Ryan Lindsay early on, the other batters stepped up and delivered. Sam Mount (14), Matthew White (27) and Jaxon Heatherill (19) were outstanding with Bentley Parker (30 not out) the top scorer of the night.
A target of 129 to win was set for the home team.
Some very tight bowling by the Green side saw the Magpies lose wickets early on and unable to build any partnerships.
Izayah Williams picking up 2-8 off two overs was the pick of the bowlers.
Sam Mount was causing problems with the Magpies, taking two catches and a run out.
U14 Blue
Coming off the back of a very strong win, the U14 Blue team were looking to make the same impact in day one of their two-day match against the Yarrawonga Bulls.
Some consistent batting saw Xavier De Fazio (15), Angus Hayes (15), Tom Snell (14) and Tom Osborne (17) keep the run count ticking over.
At the end of the 40 overs on day one, the U14 Blue team were all out and now have to defend a score of 119.
Final score:
U14 Blue – 10/119
U14 Red
After being washed out the week before, this was the Red team’s first experience at a two-dayer.
After winning the toss, they elected to bat and the Ovens Valley team started to pick off our openers very cheaply.
Captain Harry Skelton could only manage eight and the next three batters that followed him contributed a total of 11 between them.
Angus Leavold and Jack Hart came to the crease looking to build a partnership and they both dug deep and did just that.
Together they put on 80 runs (including extras) between them, with Angus retiring not out for his first 50 of the season.
Once Jack Hart was dismissed for 27, Boden Hazell came in looking to make an impact, and he added 19 more to the team’s total. Noah Anderson (13) took a good swing at everything adding some spark to the tail end.
Final score:
U14 Red – 9/168
U16
After coming off their comeback win last week, the under-16s headed back to Wangaratta to play the Rovers.
Captain Lucas Ham lost the toss and sent his team in to bat. Lucas Ham and Mitchell Cooney opened the batting with Mitchell being dismissed in the first over. Josh Hart and Lucas tried batting through the tough conditions before Josh was dismissed for seven.
Kai Dervish and Lucas (29) steadied the ship, seeing a partnership of 30 runs between the two before the captain was cleaned bowled.
This brought Bryce Cooney to the crease and for the second week in a row Bryce showed his batting class by making a score of 33.
It will require another miraculous effort to defend the total set by the U16 Bushies team, but they have proven before that they can do it.
Final score:
U16 – 9/109 (39.1)
