On the football field, LBU will be hoping to maintain its status as the HDL’s top team when it takes on fellow top-four side the Bulldogs.
The Cats sit two points clear in first place, but with Colbinabbin hot on their heels in second, only a win will ensure they hold onto top spot.
LBU has been in fine form recently with six wins on the trot since its sole defeat of the season against Colbinabbin in round eight, but it’ll be hoping to put in a better performance than the last time it faced the Bulldogs.
The Cats needed a stunning fourth-quarter comeback to top North Bendigo in round seven, with LBU kicking five goals to one in the final term to turn a 16-point deficit into a 10-point victory.
The Bulldogs haven’t lost a game since that clash back in May with North Bendigo collecting six wins and a draw since then.
North Bendigo sits fourth on the ladder and the Dogs have already secured their spot in the finals, but they still have hopes of a top-two finish with just a four-point gap separating them and Colbinabbin.
On the netball court, the Cats will face the Bulldogs in a clash they almost have to win in order to keep their finals hopes alive with three rounds to go.
LBU sits in eighth but is just one win behind fifth-placed Leitchville-Gunbower, but with tougher match-ups against Colbinabbin and Elmore still to come, the Cats will be hoping to secure four points against bottom-placed North Bendigo.
The Bulldogs however will be no easy beats — they are coming off a win against Huntly last round and strong performances against Leitchville-Gunbower and Heathcote in the weeks prior.
Just one win separates fifth from eighth in the HDNL, and a win for the Cats could see them claw their way back into a finals spot.
