The Bombers moved up into the top five after their 50-42 win over Colbinabbin last round, their fifth victory of the season.
But with only percentage separating them and sixth-placed Huntly and the Bombers just one win ahead of Heathcote and Lockington-Bamawm United, only a victory would guarantee their finals spot for another week.
But that could be a tall order with L-G to come up against a strong Elmore side. The Bloods have 12 wins to their name this season, with just the one loss so far.
Elmore claimed an emphatic 28-goal win when the two sides met back in round six, running out 70-42 victors.
On the football field, Leitchville-Gunbower will be looking to end the Heathcote District Football League season on a high.
The Bombers have one win to their name in 2022 — they defeated Huntly in their opening game of the season — but they have been unable to get another taste of victory since then.
L-G has lost 12 games in a row since that round two triumph, but the team has shown promising signs in recent weeks against the HDL’s top sides.
And with three games against teams outside the top four to close out the season, the Bombers now have a chance to finish the season with a bang.
Bombers coach Tim Bannan said it was important for his side to finish the year off well, starting with a good performance against Elmore.
“These games are going to be really, really important,” Bannan said.
“If we can take a couple of scalps, it would be really nice for the boys to finish off well after a difficult season with injuries and everything.
“We have shown we can run with the better teams, so hopefully we can get a couple of wins to finish the season off on a high.”
Bannan said a complete-game performance would be the key against Elmore.
“For us to have any chance of winning the game , we have got to play four quarters of footy,” he said.
“We are starting off strong but not finishing off well, so hopefully we can gather some momentum in that third quarter and give ourselves a chance to be in the game.
The two sides met back in round seven, with Elmore claiming a 36-point win.
