Locals put on strong showing at junior vote count

Under-13s Picola League best and fairest winner Lily Petersen in action during the season.

The district’s top junior performers were in attendance for the Picola League vote count in Moama on Monday.

The Blighty, Deni Rovers and Mathoura clubs were represented.

Local clubs dominated in the under-13s netball in particular, with Blighty’s Lily Petersen winning the best and fairest after an amazing season, which included finals appearances.

Unfortunately her side was eliminated in the semi-finals last weekend.

Second in the same category was Deniliquin’s Lilly Boyer, with fellow Rovers teammate Nina Glowrey coming in third.

Just missing out on a best and fairest this year was Rovers thirds footballer Baxter Cowley, who was runner-up.

But to get second place after missing a number of games due to representative football and being called up play for the Rovers seniors on a number of occasions was still an amazing result.

Local players who placed in the top ten of their respective age groups are as follows:

Football:

Fourths - Bentley Hardman (Deni Rovers), 4.

Thirds - Baxter Cowley (Deni Rovers), 2.

Netball:

Under-13s - Lily Petersen (Blighty), 1; Lilly Boyer (Deni Rovers), 2; Nina Glowrey (Deni Rovers), 3; Quinn Downward (Mathoura), 8; Ava Braybon (Deni Rovers), 9.

Under-15s - Amy Holloway (Deni Rovers), 3; Ruby Pisasale (Blighty), 4; Ruby Cowley (Deni Rovers), 5; Bae Willis (Deni Rovers), 7; Julia Taranto (Mathoura), 9.

Under-17s - Hazel Glowrey (Deni Rovers), 3; Chelsea Weir (Blighty), 6.

The Picola League senior vote count will be held this coming Monday, also in Moama.
