On a night where goals came at a premium at Marvel Stadium – evidenced by the combined 30 behinds kicked between the two sides – the crafty small forward was unable to add to his career tally of one goal, which he kicked against Richmond in round two.
But it was still a positive night for Berry, who found plenty of footy in what was a largely scrappy contest, recording 15 disposals, the most in his three-game career to this point.
He also showed plenty of work ethic, finding space to claim five uncontested marks and sent the ball inside 50 on five occasions, finishing his night with a goal assist and four score involvements as the Power went down 8.12 (60) to 9.18 (72).
Port will be in action again on Sunday afternoon, taking on St Kilda at Adelaide Oval.
Fellow Benalla export Harry Morrison continued his solid run of form as Hawthorn kept its perfect start to the season intact with a stirring come-from-behind win over GWS in Tasmania.
With the wind heavily favouring scoring at one end, the Hawks found themselves down by 35 points at the first break, before kicking six goals to none in the second term to edge ahead by half-time.
But the hard work was done in the third term, kicking four goals against the breeze, that got the Hawks the win, with Morrison slotting one of those four majors to help his side secure the 10.16 (76) to 9.10 (64) win.
Morrison had 16 touches in the victory, two of which were contested while winning one clearance, and also added two tackles and three rebound-50s on a night that saw Hawthorn surge even further ahead in premiership favouritism.
The Hawks have a week off thanks to the bye this weekend, before returning with a huge clash against Berry’s Port Adelaide side to close out Gather round at Adelaide Oval.
