2023 marks the beginning of an exciting new era on the netball court at Benalla.
Winning six games last year, the Saints were the definition of a middle-of-the-road side, as they showed flashes at their best but never truly competed with the competition’s elite.
Stuck at a tough crossroads, the club has decided to go down the path of investing in its youth and building a strong culture filled with exciting local talent.
Jo Toms returns to take the reins as A and B-grade coach after a stint with Benalla All Blacks, with her development-first approach making her the perfect person to front the rebuilding effort.
Set to take a more long-term approach, she said this season would be all about setting a platform for an exciting future at the club.
“The start of my tenure as coach has been really positive, numbers at training have been very good and vibes are up,” Toms said.
“We will certainly have a new-look team on the court this year, the goal for us is getting players into the club that want to be part of what we are building long-term.
“The girls seem very willing to buy into what I’ve been trying to do as coach, they are very committed and having fun and that’s all I can ask.
“Obviously wins on the board would be nice, and that’s what we are striving to do, but more importantly I want to create a team that will give 100 per cent both on and off the court for each other and the club.”
