The course at Benalla Golf Club looked fantastic, and the day was a great success thanks to the efforts of all involved at the club.
A good field of 80 set out to play an aggregate stableford competition, and there were great scores.
No-one was better than the local Benalla pairing of Blake and Shannon Spinks, who took the win for the men with a fabulous combined score of 81 points.
The best of the mixed teams were Elizabeth and Eric Smith from Jubilee with 75 points, and the women’s top prize went to another Benalla pairing, Meredith Badrock and Barbara Carroll, who clearly enjoyed the home-ground advantage with 76 points.
Runners-up for the men were Angelo Garraffo and Leo McCoy from Tarrawingee (76); for the mixed, Sharon Gysberts and Alex Scherini from Mansfield (74); and for the women, Kellie Roberts and Leanne Carmody from Jubilee (70).
A team trophy is also awarded at opening day for those representing their club’s ‘captains, presidents and secretaries’, and this year it was won by Jubilee, with 108 points and the team of Glen Ryan, Elizabeth Smith and Kellie Roberts.
The North East committee would like to thank all those involved at Benalla, including greenskeepers, catering, pro shop and hospitality, for providing a fantastic venue for the event, which was a highly successful and fun way to kick off our golfing season.
