The Goorambat boys knew they had a challenge on their hands against ladder leader Greta on Saturday, with a couple of key position players out of the side, but they stood tall in the first quarter of the game.
Greta did get their game going after the first break, but the boys did not make it easy for them, with Jamie Dunne and Ryan Burns continuing their great form, keeping the Bats in the contest.
Darcy Edgar played one of his best games in the ruck, with Ben Reaburn and Aaron Blackburn presenting up forward, but Goorambat struggled to make the most of forward entries on the day.

A grade
The Bats came up against Greta on the weekend. They expected the game to be physical, and it was just that.
Greta is well-drilled and quick at moving the ball around the court.
The Bats were fully aware they had to bring their best defensive game to stop the Greta girls from scoring.
Nikki Wallace, Brittany Button and Olivia Osborne, who had her first game for the Bats, combined exceptionally well, taking many intercepts and making the Greta girls work hard.
The Bats trailed Greta by five goals in the first quarter.
Greta was accurate, so the Bats had to stop the ball from getting into the ring. Mid-courters Carli Hogan, Kylie Relf, Mackenzie Wilkinson and Sarah Osborne had to take care of the ball when they got it and showed good control, bringing it down the court.
It has been an up and down year for the Bats, but they were able to play some of their best netball on the weekend.
Goorambat was able to play quick, sharp netball, but this was not consistent throughout the game.
Shooters Ella Sheehan and Ally Ellis worked hard at capitalising when the Bats’ won turnovers, moving the ball around the ring and waiting for easy scoring opportunities.
Final score:
Goorambat 33 def by Greta 43
Best players:
- Olivia Osborne
- Brittany Button
- Nikki Wallace

B reserve
With usual coach Amelia Gall away, B reserve had Sarah Osborne step in to take the reins.
Sarah had the tough task of rotating 11 players, but the team pulled together.
It was a tough-fought game this week from both sides, with the scoreline neck and neck throughout.
The Bats were only three goals down going into the last quarter.
In a best-on-court effort, Kate Nolan was consistent in her shooting, with her movement on the court and in the ring providing many options for her teammates.
Second best-on went to Chloe Trevena, who really stepped up in wing attack with fantastic and patient feeding into the shooters, as well as providing many options through the mid-court.
Third best-on went to the ever-consistent team captain, Elise Nolan, who provided many rebounds and intercepts, as well as substantial pressure on the opposition attackers.
In the end, the Bats could not finish off with a win, but they should be very proud of all their efforts.
They have definitely improved as a team and now look towards hopefully securing a win next week.
Final score:
Goorambat 37 def by Greta 45
Best players:
- Kate Nolan - Royal Hotel
- Chloe Trevena - Bare Aesthetik
- Elise Nolan - Bill-Bo-Pop
C grade
C grade came up against Greta. The team started off strong, with both teams going goal for goal.
As the game progressed, Greta slowly gained momentum.
The Bats continued to fight hard until the end, with everyone giving their all.
Eleanor and Libby Renkin joined the side from the under 15s to help support the team. Eleanor came on in the second quarter to give Ella a rest in wing attack.
Poppy and Bronti worked hard in the ring together, scoring goals and rebounding well.
Ella, Eleanor, Alyssa and Charli moved the ball well in the attacking end, making movement to the goalers look easy.
Lacey, Bronti, Alyssa, and Molly worked hard in defence, intercepting many balls and trying to stop the ball from reaching the Greta shooter.
Once again, thank you to Libby, who sat on the bench in the cold weather to ensure we would be covered in case of injury.
Without these under 15s helping us out, the team would struggle weekly. Great effort, girls.
Their game is improving every week, and the Bats just need to work hard to get over the line.
Final score:
Goorambat 34 def by Greta 44
Best players:
- Charli Button - Tony Kelly cash award
- Bronti Mustey - Blooms on Bridge
- Alyssa Priest - Spot 4 Icecream

It was the second time playing Greta this season, and the girls showed improvement.
Ruby Richardson again played consistently, passing well and gaining many intercepts.
Ella Bast was the only goaler to score on the day, and Amelia Keen worked to get clear for centre passes.
Libby Renkin worked tirelessly throughout the game, and Eleanor Renkin also played her consistent game, working hard.
Claudia Kelly worked hard in defence, while Maliaka Perry stood tall in defence, tapping the ball to her teammates to help clear the defensive third.
The club is proud of how the girls played.
