Rochester solidified its lead at the top of the table, dispatching number one contender Echuca 2 9-92 to 4-60 at Echuca Lawn Tennis Club.
Rochy’s singles contingent was on song, Jacob Grieves and Tobie Woodfine earning 6-0 and 6-1 wins to get their side off to a dream start.
Echuca 2 regained some ground in the men’s doubles, taking two of three sets with a hard-fought pair of 8-7 results.
The women’s doubles swung back Rochester’s way, the visitor taking three of the four sets, led by an 8-0 victory to the pairing of Alyssa Moss and Kaitlin Familari.
It was a similar story in the mixed doubles, Rochester proving too strong in three of the four sets, locking in a comfortable win for the ladder-leaders.
LBU vs Echuca 1
Lockington-Bamawm United’s hopes of opening its account for 2024-25 were quickly dashed by Echuca 1, the host picking up a big 10-84 to 3-59 win at Echuca Lawn Tennis Club.
Echuca started on the front foot with 6-1 wins in both singles fixtures, Nick Bush and Eli Kingma getting the job done.
The host continued its dominance of the men’s section with victory in all three men’s doubles, Kingma and Bush forming combinations with Todd Charnas and Hugh Melville across the sets.
LBU’s women’s doubles contenders stepped up to give the visitor some hope.
They won three of the four sets on offer, with Lois Toohey and Melissa Haines capping off the section with an 8-1 victory.
However, hopes of a fightback were quickly crushed in the concluding mixed doubles segment, with Echuca adding four more wins to its tally in a clean sweep.
LBU remains rooted to the bottom of the table and will be heavy underdog in this week’s match-up with Rochester at Rochester Lawn Tennis Club.
In the other match of the round, Echuca 3 and Echuca 1 will face off, while Echuca 2 has the bye.
