Well, that’s the consensus at the BFT gym in Shepparton anyway.
The gym is heading towards the end of its 10-week training program for a Hyrox race in Melbourne.
Hyrox is a race-workout competition that is held in large indoor centres.
The athletes run 1km before completing a workout station, repeating the process eight times.
More than 50 participants at BFT Shepparton are training to compete in the next race in Melbourne, which will be held at the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre on December 14-15.
BFT fitness trainer Lacey Paaka said the sport of Hyrox had existed for a while, but had recently boomed in Australia.
“Hyrox is a competition that has just come to Australia in the last two years,” Paaka said.
“It has been pretty busy and hectic at the moment.
“There are about three competitions that happen each year.
“The competition is worldwide.”
The training sessions in the lead-up to the event are high-intensity workouts.
Paaka said this was the third time BFT Shepparton had run a training schedule leading up to a Hyrox race.
“We run 10 weeks of programming before the event, so they have 10 weeks of training leading up to the event,” she said.
“It is called peak sessions.”
Because the environment at Hyrox events can be maintained at an even level worldwide due to being indoors, the scores and times that competitors receive are counted globally.
Across the three times the gym has run training programs for a Hyrox event, Paaka has seen the number of participants grow considerably.
She believes it is due to the sense of community created by the fitness instructors and the participants.
“Mainly the community (has helped drive growth),” she said.
“The community is a good thing at BFT and we pride ourselves on that, just to make sure everyone feels welcome and comfortable training with us.
“All of our sessions are for the general (population) as well, so we always base the sessions off how they are.
“So we always base our exercises off that and progress them when need be.
“Fifty-minute sessions in the morning and afternoon as well.”
