Our A-grade side met the City Colts in Wangartatta and elected to bowl first.
Things got off to a great start with the openers dismissed early on. The Colts’ number 4 bat gave the Bushies some headaches and was unable to be dismissed, finishing on 106 not out.
Conor Brodie was pick of the bowlers, finishing with 3/28 off eight overs.
Unfortunately, the team couldn’t produce much with the bat, with Michael Honman (12), Charlie Bull (12) and Brayden Stepien (19) top scoring for the team.
Final score:
City Colts – 6/199
Bushies – 10/74
A-reserve
The A-res side played at home this week against a strong Wangaratta Magpies team.
The Maggies sent the home team into bat first up and after a shaky start Daniel Brew (26) and Simon Briggs (57) steadied to get the runs ticking over.
Lucas Ham (18) and Josh Heylbut (25) contributed to set the Magpies a target of 156.
Gurpreet helped stem the flow of runs from the Magpies, taking the wickets of their two top scorers. Kallum Croxford had the ball on a string with 3/19 off eight overs.
In the end, the Bushies were able to hold on for the win.
Final score:
Bushies — 7/155
Wangaratta Magpies — 9/138
B-grade
The B-grade side travelled across to Merton and was asked to bowl first.
Wickets were hard to come by early but the pressure was maintained through consistent lines. Darren Skelton was unlucky not to pick up a wicket with his figures of eight overs, two maidens and 13 runs.
While Bryce Cooney didn’t pick up any wickets of his own, he took a great catch off some Brendan Duncombe magic.
Heading into bat, needing 115 for the win, things got off to a great start with Craig Williams (27) and Simon Holmes (28no) working together for a strong partnership.
Mat Hadj (17), Greg Hoysted (15no) and Brendan Duncombe (23) steered the team home for the B-grade’s second win on the trot.
Final score:
Merton — 4/114
Bushies — 3/118

While rain cancelled a number of the games in this round for the under-14s, the Blue team was able to get onto the pitch up in North Wangaratta to play on the first day of this two-day round.
The Wangratta Magpies sent the Bushies into bat and the openers put on a masterclass.

At the end of day one, Bushies have set the target with their final score of 8/192.
Under-12 Red
All three under-12 sides played away this week and the Red team took the trip to Yarrawonga to take on the Lakers.
Bushies went in for a bat but some tight bowling saw the opening three batters dismissed early.
Ollie Ross (14) put his head down to top score for the team and set a target of 52 for the home side.
Wickets were hard to come by with the Lakers only losing four for their innings with Ollie Ross continuing his good form with the ball, picking up two wickets.

The wickets fell continuously with Ted Clancy finishing with 2/2.
His day with the bat ended quickly, only facing two balls with no runs to his name.
Lachie Osborne (20) and Caleb Hein (17 no) built a great partnership, both retiring not out and able to come back in to add more to the scorecard.

Benalla Blue — 9/96
