The Towners made a hot start to the contest, but Nagambie proved too strong over the four quarters, with the visitors eventually falling 9.10 (64) to 17.12 (114).
At quarter-time, however, it looked like Violet Town could have been a chance to pull off a huge upset in the first game under new coach – and past player – Brad Gleeson, slotting 3.4 (22) to take a slender two-point lead into the quarter time break.
However Nagambie settled in the second term and reminded everyone they’re a contending side, slamming through eight goals to the Towners’ two, opening up a 39-point advantage by half time.
The visitors were admirable after the main break, keeping touch with the Lakers, however the damage had been done, with the margin eventually creeping out to 50 points courtesy of a six-goal to four second half from Nagambie.
Patrick Horsburgh was Violet Town’s best in the loss, with John Woodcock and Sam Cox (one goal) also influential, while Ryan Jennings, Joshua Robertson and Robert Wilson (three goals) rounded out the best.
Ashly Hobbs was among the goals, slotting two majors, while Nathan Butler and Hayden Floate each kicked one.
The Towners will take on Undera in round two this weekend in their first home game of the season, with the clash against the Lions - who went winless to claim the wooden spoon in 2024 - presenting itself as a good chance for the side to get its first win on the board in 2025.
